Classroom Timer

A visual countdown for the whole class: the colored disc shrinks as time runs out, so students can see how much is left without reading the numbers. Put it full screen on the board.

10:00

Set the time

How to use it

  1. Choose a length with the presets or the steppers.
  2. Press Full screen to fill the projector or smartboard, then Start.
  3. The colored area shows the time remaining. With the traffic-light warning on, it turns yellow and then red near the end.
  4. Pick a gentle sound for the end — or Silent, and the screen flashes instead.
  5. Pause for interruptions; Reset returns to the full time for the next group.

Why a disc instead of digits

A shrinking shape shows the passing of time in a way that does not depend on reading a clock, which helps younger students and anyone who finds “five more minutes” abstract. The whole class can judge “about half left” at a glance from the back of the room.

The traffic-light option adds a clear signal for wrapping up: yellow means start finishing, red means stop writing soon. You set both thresholds in minutes.

Tips for the board

Use full screen and keep the browser tab in front; the screen is kept awake while the timer runs on browsers that support it. If the room is noisy, choose the bell or the gong; for tests, choose Silent.

Questions people ask

Can I run it without sound during a test?

Yes. Set “Sound at the end” to Silent. When time is up the screen flashes and shows “Time’s up” without making a noise.

Does it work on a smartboard or projector?

Yes. It is a web page, so anything with a modern browser works. Press Full screen (or F) and the disc scales to fill the display.

Will it keep time if I switch to another tab to show slides?

Yes. The countdown is based on the clock, not on the tab being visible, and the end sound still plays. Switch back to show the class the disc.

Can students use it on their own devices?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and Chromebooks, with no sign-in. For individual focus work, the visual timer has the same disc with quieter defaults.
