Random Timer
Set a shortest and longest time. The timer secretly picks a length somewhere between them and hides the countdown — the alarm is a surprise for everyone, including you.
How to use it
- Set the minimum and maximum times.
- Press Start. The timer picks a random length in that range and keeps it hidden.
- Play your game. Nobody can see how long is left.
- When the alarm sounds, the round is over — and the length it picked is revealed.
- Press Start again for a new random length.
Games it works for
Pass-the-object games in the style of hot potato: whoever is holding it when the alarm goes is out. Word games where you must stop mid-sentence. Musical chairs and musical statues without someone watching a clock. Random-interval drills in sport, or “work until the bell” challenges.
Every length in your range is equally likely, to the tenth of a second. If you would rather see the countdown, switch on “Show the time”.
Questions people ask
Is it really random?
The length is drawn with your browser’s random number generator, evenly between your minimum and maximum. It is unpredictable for a game; it is not meant for anything with money or security at stake.
Can someone cheat by looking at the tab title?
No. While the time is hidden, the tab title and the progress bar do not show it either.
What if I reload the page?
The hidden timer keeps running with the same secret end time.
