Online Timer

Set a time, press Start, and get on with something else. The alarm sounds when it reaches zero — and if you reload or close the page, the timer is still right when you come back.

Set the time

Your timers

Set a time, pick a sound, then choose “Save timer”. Saved timers appear here and start in one tap.

How to use it

  1. Set the time with the + and − steppers, type it into the hours, minutes and seconds boxes, or tap a preset.
  2. Press Start (or the space bar). The time it will end is shown under the digits.
  3. Pause and resume whenever you like; +1:00 adds a minute without stopping.
  4. When the alarm sounds, press Stop alarm, or Restart to run the same time again.
  5. To keep a setup, choose a sound and color, then Save timer. It appears under “Your timers” and starts in one tap.

Why it stays accurate

Most web timers count ticks, and browsers slow ticks down in background tabs — so the timer drifts. This one stores the moment it should end and works out the time left from the clock every time it draws. A background tab, a busy computer or a reload cannot make it lose time.

The alarm is scheduled on the audio clock in advance, which is why it sounds on time even when the tab has been in the background for a while.

What a web page cannot do

A timer in a browser tab only makes sound while the tab is open and the device is awake. If you close the tab or the computer sleeps, the countdown is still correct when you come back, but nothing can ring in the meantime. On iPhone and iPad, the ring/silent switch also mutes web pages.

For anything where a missed alarm matters — medication, something on the stove — use this alongside your phone’s own alarm, not instead of it.

Questions people ask

Can I run more than one timer at once?

Yes. Choose “Add another timer”. Each timer has its own name, length, sound and color, and they all keep running if you reload the page.

Does the timer keep going if I close the tab?

The end time is saved on your device, so reopening the page shows the right time left, or how long ago it finished. The alarm itself can only sound while the page is open.

How do I share a timer?

Choose “Copy link”. The link carries the time, sound and name after the # sign, for example /timer/#t=7m30s&label=Tea. Opening it sets up the same timer; it does not start until someone presses Start.

Why is there no sound?

Check the volume slider and that the alarm sound is not set to Silent. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked or tapped the page, so if you reloaded a running timer, tap anywhere once. On iPhone, flip the ring/silent switch to ring.
